The main objective of the project is to develop a complex methodology for multi-criteria assessment and selection of an optimal technology for transport routes in the transport network, with which to achieve environmental and energy efficiency of transport.
The achievement of the objectives of the project is related to the solution of the following tasks:
- Definition of the number and type of evaluation criteria; mathematical modelling and development of complex methodology for multi-criteria assessment of the effectiveness of technologies for transportation;
- Simulation modelling of technological processes; conducting of road tests of road trains for obtaining new knowledge and facts about their environmental parameters;
- Study of the impact of fuel structure on improving their environmental parameters;
- Implementation of the complex methodology for the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T) of the Republic of Bulgaria, covering rail, road and intermodal transport;
- Study of the impact and sensitivity analysis of the evaluation criteria for obtaining knowledge about the relationships and dependencies in the surveyed system; modelling of the probabilities in conditions of change of traffic flows to obtain new knowledge about the behaviour of the transport system;
- Risk assessment for the change in optimal solutions.
The research objectives are related to the use of engineering knowledge in several areas, such as modelling and optimization of transport, transport engineering, energy, economy and ecology which correspond to the following research priority areas of the National Strategy of Scientific Research to 2020: energy, energy efficiency and transport, development of green and environmental technologies; new materials and technologies.
The methods of study cover mathematical modelling; simulation modelling, multi-criteria analysis; statistics, optimization and experimental methods.
The expected results are summarized as follows:
- Creating a complex methodology for multi-criteria assessment and selection of technologies for transport; establishment of the relationship and degree of impact of the criteria on the choice of technology for transport;
- Obtaining experimental results and data from road tests in real conditions to draw science-based conclusions and new facts about the behaviour of the studied system;
- Forming a collective, which can fulfil fundamental scientific tasks and conduct research in the field of transport organization.
